Biographical Sketch
Prof. Saurav Dutta
Prof. Saurav Dutta received his Ph.D in Accounting from the University of Kansas and his B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. Prof. Dutta is a Certified Management Accountant. He received the Robert Beyer Silver Medal for securing nationally the second highest total score in the CMA examination held in June 1989. He was also awarded the prestigious National Talent Search Scholarship in India. From 1991 onwards he was employed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems in the Graduate School of Management of Rutgers University, NJ. Currently, he is visiting SUNY- Albany as an Associate Professor.
His research interests are in analytic modeling in the area of auditing. Specifically, his work is in the area of audit risk and materiality. He has published several research articles in various leading academic journals such as: Jouranl of Accounting, Auditing and Finance, Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory; Advances in Quantitative Analysis in Finance and Accounting; Quality Management Journal; International Journal of Intelligent Systems in Accounting, Auditing and Finance; Artificial Intelligence in Accounting and Auditing; etc. He has also made presentations in numerous national and international research conferences, including the American Accounting Association Annual Meetings; Auditing Section’s Midyear Meeting; The USC Audit Judgment Symposium; The International Auditing Symposium in Maastricht, Netherlands; International Symposium in Accounting in Paris; etc.
He has been teaching in the Graduate School of Management of Rutgers University since 1991. His teaching interests lie in the area of Financial Statement Analysis; Financial Accounting; Auditing; Accounting Systems and Management Accounting. He has taught various courses in both the MBA program as well as the undergraduate program. The courses he has taught are: Accounting for Managers, Managerial Problems in Financial Reporting, Intermediate Management Accounting; Introduction to Financial Accounting and Introduction to Management Accounting. Also he developed two new courses at Rutgers: Decoding of Corporate Communications (an advanced financial statement analysis and accounting research course) and Industry Problem Analysis (a joint course with the management department on business strategy). At SUNY- Albany he is teaching Introduction to Management Accounting and Statistical Application to Auditing.
He provides consulting services in the areas of Activity Based Management; Financial Statement Analysis; Business Strategy; and Auditing. He has served as a consultant (executive training) for AT&T; Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank; Merrill Lynch; and Prudential Insurance Corp.
