Supplies: You must purchase a USB 2.0-compatible flash memory device (often referred to as a jump drive) with at least 256 mBytes of memory (If you already have one with a lot of free space on it—that’s fine). Most computers less than 5-years old support them. I found this one browsing online. You can buy them at Circuit City, Best Buy, Target, Staples, etc. The 512 mByte size seems to be the best value right now—I’ve seen them in the Sunday newspaper supplements for $25-30. Here’s another one from Buy.com.

Goals

In Geographic Information Systems, students will explore the theory and techniques associated with the collection, display, analysis, and storage of geographic information. The course will have both a lecture and a lab component. Lab work will supplement information within the lecture component, exposing students to an operational geographic information system in conjunction with sample databases.

Grading

Midterm Exam: 20%, Final Exam: 40%, Labs: 40%

Late Policy: Labs received after the stated deadline will not be accepted unless you make prior arrangements with me.

Final Exam: Monday, May 15, 3:30pm to 5:30pm
