Objective

This course will help you to develop an understanding of fundamental concepts in cartographic theory and practice. It will also introduce you to computer-assisted design (CAD) technologies.

Text

Slocum, et. al., Thematic Cartography and Geovisualization, 3rd ed. Prentice-Hall.

Note: The text will be available at Mary Jane Books in Albany.

Supplies:

If you don’t have one already, you must purchase a USB 2.0-compatible flash drive with at least 256 mBytes of memory. If you already have one, make sure it has a lot of free space on it. You can find these in almost any electronics store (Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, etc.) and online. Most computers less than 5-years old support USB 2.0 flash drives. For general use, you might want to buy a 1, 2, or more gigabyte drive—it’s probably a better value in the long run. If you find a good price, please share the information!

Grading
