Transphobia

March 9, 2004

Back to Class Schedule

Class Plan
We will discuss the readings for today as well as finish up any discussion on last week's reading that we may not have had time for due to the film that we watched during class. Pay particular attention to the readings that you are to do for today and think about your previous study of both Women's Studies and Queer (LGB) Studies as you analyze the articles. If you can think of any relevant information that pertains to the articles that you have either read about in another class or you have heard lectures on, please bring to class those readings and/or lecutre notes as we will incorporate them into today's discussion.

Readings
  • Sex Changes: Transgender Politics:
    • chapter 3, The Backlash: Transphobia in Feminism
    • chapter 4, The Berdache Wars and "Passing Women" Follies: Transphobia in Gay Academia

Class Assignments
Do some research on Day of Remembrance and bring your findings to class today. Write briefly in your class journal about your findings. See if you can find some information about any events that are held in honor of this day.
