Class Plan
Today, we will be going over the syllabus and discussing some of the basic information about GenderQueer identities. Also, we will be watching Ma Vie en Rose, a film about a young boy who is transgendered.

Class Assignments

Sometime between now and the next class meeting, try to use the gender neutral pronouns that we reviewed in class today. Observe how difficult it is to break away from using the terms "he", "she", "him", "her", etc. and try replacing the words instead with "ze" and "hir". Write up a paragraph or two about the experience addressing some of the following questions:

  • How challenging was it?
  • How successful were you in not using one of the gendered pronouns?
  • What kind of response did you get from the people around you?
  • How receptive were people to your explanations about why you were using the gender neutral pronouns?
  • Do you find any benefit of using the gender neutral pronoun? Why or why not?

Be prepared to share your experience in class.
