Film Festival Review: Enough In continuing their theme “Fighting Back” the film festival group concluded their movie presentations with the Enough. The movie stars Jennifer Lopez as a woman caught in a marriage with an abusive husband. Slim, played by Lopez, thought the man she married was her knight in shining armor. He did almost anything to please her, even buy her a house that was not on sale. Their marriage seemed perfect. Even her car was perfect. Little did she know her husband wasn't as wonderful as he appeared to be. Upon intercepting a call on his phone she learns of his infidelities. She demands that he stops at once and he response with a slap across her face that sends her to the floor. After continued abuse and threats she decides to leave him. With the help of her friends she escapes, but not without getting badly bruised by her husband. The movie progresses as she traveled across the country running and hiding from her husband and his ever-present goons. Slim decided it was time to fight back after a near death chase in which her and daughter were almost ran off the road. This decision was also fueled by a trip to a lawyer who informed her that she had very little chance at winning custody of her daughter. With the help of a trainer she undergoes an intense self-defense course and sets a trap for her husband at his house. When he arrived she confronted him but he didn't want to fight her. She asked him how come he only wanted to hit her when she wasn't expecting it. After a few punches from her he is finally worked up to a rage and fights her back. During the fight he asked her if she expected to win and she replied, “Self defense is not murder”. With that the audience (as well as her husband) gets the hint that she plans to kill him, which she eventually does after some hesitation. The movie, nor the presenters, promote revenge killing of abusive husbands. The main message was as the theme stated, that women are fighting back. They are no longer sitting down and taking abuse, no matter how perfect the man or even the marriage seems.
