Yolanda Simon is the regional coordinator of the Caribbean Regional Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (CRN+). CRN+ strives to raise awareness of people living with HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean through a number of avenues: advocacy, research, capacity building, resource mobilization, lobbying and sensitization strategies to reduce stigma and discrimination.
Yolanda is on the board of the National AIDS Coordination Committee (NACC) of the government in Trinidad and Tobago. The NACC focuses on national HIV/AIDS programs and policy and strategic plan formulation. She also serves as the representative for the Caribbean on the steering committee for the Global Coalition on Women and AIDS, a group that is being spearheaded by UNAIDS.
Through all of her work related to HIV/AIDS, Yolanda puts an emphasis on the effect that gender has on HIV/AIDS. She further emphasizes the complicated interconnectedness of several issues as they further impact HIV/AIDS advocacy and awareness. These issues include multicultural perspectives, masculinity, and the interaction between HIV and gender violence.
