  1. Is the essence of strategy formulation coping with competition? Why?
  2. The author says that strategy is "finding positions in the industry where [competitive] forces are weakest." And that "the key to growth…is to stake out a position that is less vulnerable to attack…": Is the way to cope with competition by avoiding it?

Generic Business Strategies: by Mintzberg

  1. How useful for locating a business, is the framework give by the author? What might you add?
  2. Mintzberg says "To have no basis for differentiation is a strategy too, indeed by all observations a common one, and in fact one that may be pursued deliberately." What is you opinion of this assertion?
