Subject: experience from haiti

Dear Dr.Briere,
I want to inform you, that I am now in Lima, Peru all by myself, and
surviving in the new environment in the second week and has taken up a
job that can last from a year to three years. Its an excellant job
(both career wise and money wise!) at an international agricultural
research center. I am an associate scientist in GIS for them.
I derived the courage from the experiment I did with myself in taking
myself to Haiti. Learning a new language and being in a foreign
underdeveloped country for a development work was a big question for me,
and in Haiti I learnt about many of my capabilities and vulnerabilities,
it really showed me a picture of where my personality needed more strength
than it had, and where I needed to take it easy!
Though I cant specifically point out what factors in Haiti trip
helped me, I really think that overall it definitely guided me in
finding out what I can expect out of myself, and my interaction with
another country in an international staff environment.
I think I had better expectations this time, and things have been
flowing smoothly! Yes, now I am learning spanish. But these centers
are around the world, so I might travel to Africa, and use my
French knowledge also and to South Asia and use my English
knowledge.

Thank you!
