SPRING BREAK STUDY-TOUR IN HAITI

WHAT? A three week program living in a rural mountain village.
Attend pre-trip lectures, keep a journal during the stay, carry out a project in the village.Upon return determine a final project:
  • a research paper on an aspect of Haitian life.
  • a development project that could be implemented in Fondwa
  • a fund raising project that could benefit Fondwa
Submit final project to me on June 30th to receive three credits
WHY? A unique opportunity to see behind the veil created by the media when it comes to developing nations.Haiti is always depicted as �the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere� , but this does not say it all! You will see for yourself what ordinary peasants are doing to develop their own community and what the obstacles to development are. When you come back home, you will see things differently: guaranteed.
WHEN? The last two weeks in May and the first week of June.
WHERE? Departure from JFK via American Airlines. Return from Port-au-Prince Program takes place in Fondwa in southwestern Haiti. Some tourism in other areas.
WHO? Prof. Eloise Briere, Ph.D. is tour leader. Participants are: anyone (students, graduate, undergraduate, other) who has a desire to see and experience another culture (and who is capable of walking: there is no motorized transportation in Fondwa.)

All expenses in Haiti(lodging, all meals, transportation in Haiti, airport transfer, program activities, seminars and classes, informational materials, overnight in Jacmel) TBA
