Born May 4, 1950. Raised, graduated High School in Manchester, Iowa.
Graduated with BM (organ performance) from St. Olaf College,
Northfield, Minnesota, in 1972. Attended graduate school (musicology)
at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
 
Professional:
 
Presently software developer/system manager for Laboratory for
Computing and Cognition, UNC-CH School of Medicine. Organist, Trinity
Methodist Church, Durham, NC (Skinner Op. 416, as yet unrestored, but
we're hoping!). Director, Pro Cantare Ensemble (32-voice a cappella,
community-based choral group). Member, American Guild of Organists,
Organ Historical Society.
 
Interests:
 
VAX/VMS, Macintosh systems; software for curricular use in medical
education; databases; user-interface development; multimedia
applications; Romantic/Symphonic organs, especially EM Skinner;
Romantic organ repertoire; Non-contemporary American organ music
(e.g., Foote, Parker, Buck); a cappella choral repertoire; sacred and
secular American history; architecture; preservation Shade gardening.

Dean File died July 16, 1995 in Chapel Hill after a long battle with
non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.  He was 45.                             [BEC]
