
Byting into the New Millenium Union Free District of the Tarrytowns, Goals 2000 Program. The objectives of this GOALS 2000 grant is for teachers to try out new strategies and software integrating technology in an inquiry-based approach. Evaluation of this program's intensive and afterschool workshops for teachers is currently being conducted.
Safe Schools/Violence Prevention Program A collaboration between the Union Free School District of the Tarrytowns and its community-based partner, SER of Westchester, Inc. The goal of this program is to expand upon New York State's Extended School Day School Violence Prevention Program such that it is geared towards the needs of Limited English Proficiency students and community members.
Schenectady Goals 2000 Local Improvement Plan The purpose of this project is to train the district's school teachers in the middle-level school reform, the new New York State Learning Standards, and the integration of technology into the classroom.
Questar III BOCES/SAANYS This project involves evaluating several workshops conducted by the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS) for school administrators. The workshops have focused on the new New York State Learning Standards and school leadership. The project also involves evaluating the Expanding Sharing Success program conducted under Education 21 that selects exemplary schools and disseminates information on these schools to other educators. Evaluation of the SAANYS Web site for school administrators is also part of the project. This project is in its second year of evaluation.
New York Wired This project involves evaluation of the activities conducted under the New York State Technology Literacy Challenge Grant. These activities consist mainly of training conducted by New York State Wired for New York State K-12 teachers in the use of technology and how to integrate technology into their curricula. The program is in the second year of evaluation.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) This project involves three evaluation tasks of RPI's Intelligent Transportation Systems Project. The first is evaluating educational technology modules on Wireless Technology for ITS. The second is evaluating educational technology modules for Traffic Management Center Operators and engineers working in state and federal transportation and highway departments. The final task is evaluating and educational gaming simulation on Video Detection and Surveillance Technology used in toll collection systems. This project is a formative and summative evaluation in its first year.
Bioinformatics This evaluation project is also being conducted at RPI, and it involves evaluating a quasi-studio classroom course given at the undergraduate level for biological molecular engineering (See Course Description). The course uses the latest technologies to learn about research in molecular engineering. This project is a multi-year evaluation in its first year and also involves formative and summative designs.
ATTC-Addiction Technology Transfer Center This project entails evaluation of the direct training for addictions professionals as well as in-depth case studies of various projects to document systemic change in the educational and mental health system for substance abuse. Most of these projects include the construction and implementation of new course requirements for undergraduate and graduate programs in substance abuse.
Guilderland Enrichment Program Together with the Guilderland Central School districts, the goal of this project is to assess the perceptions of vested stakeholders on the gifted and talented programs currently in place at the elementary, middle and high school in the Guilderland central school district.
Science Research Program Through a grant provided by the National Science Foundation, this three year course of study in 100 high schools across NYS has been evaluated by the Evaluation Consortium for the last three years. This year, a summative, meta-evaluation is being performed, to assess the systemic change that has occurred over the three years. In addition, a formative evaluation is being performed to gain the perception of stakeholders who have been involved in the program for the last three years.
Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS) (Family Resource Center) Together with OCFS, the Evaluation Consortium will assist the 16 family resource centers across NYS in establishing a database that can used to document # of users, background information, area of need and initial services. In addition, a formative evaluation will be conducted in order to gather information that will serve to enhance the family resource centers in the future.
Math Science Technology Integrated Assessment Project In cooperation with the New York State Department of Education, the Evaluation Consortium at the University at Albany/SUNY will assist as the New York State Department of Education in designing a pilot of assessment tasks developed for the New York State Math, Science, and Technology (MST) Standards at the elementary and intermediate level. This includes assistance with the development of timelines, instrumentation, sampling frame, and validation procedures, as well as establishing reliability and validity for the assessment's scoring rubrics.
