Sigma Tau Delta

The International English Honor Society

Theta Phi Chapter Welcomes English Majors and Minors who:

  1. have a minimum of 2 college courses in English language or literature beyond the 100-level and including 210
  2. have a B or equivalent average in English
  3. rank in the top 35% of the class in general scholarship
  4. have completed at least 3 semesters or 5 quarters of college work

Chapter activities include community and campus service, literacy outreach, social events with faculty, fundraising, literary and academic events. Our quarterly book sales, Buck a Book, create an opportunity for members to interact with faculty and students while recycling books, CDs, DVDs and tapes donated by members and English faculty.

This chapter maintains an Honors Lounge in the Humanities Building where members study, meet, hold meetings and create opportunities for social and academic activities of various kinds. We have about 40 active members each year. Seniors are honored at the departmental recognition ceremony with special Sigma Tau Delta honor cords and are escorted by an honor guard of Sigma Tau Delta marshals.

Pres. Matt O’Connell and past Pres. Stacey Brecher at 2004 luau.

In addition, membership in Sigma Tau Delta provides opportunities for literary awards and competitions, publication, scholarships, and participation in the annual national conference held each spring semester.
