The University’s Writing Center is continuing to present a free film series entitled “Films Featuring Writers and Writing.” April 14 LC 19 Shakespeare in Love 12 - 2:00 Participation is encouraged for the 2004 HumaniTech* Conference, “Humanities, Technology, science, and the Nexus of Discourse,” to be held on campus April 23-25, as part of the Writing Semester. Submit proposals for papers and exhibits to Humanitech2004@yahoo.com. For more information or other queries, please contact the conference committee at the same email address. There has been a call for submissions for the 2004 Norton Scholar’s Prize. Individual faculty might nominate one of his or her students. Entries must be postmarked to the Norton Company no later than April 16. Details are listed on FYE. Also, for departmental graduate students, submissions are now being taken
for the fifth annual Michael Sprinker Graduate Writing Competition.

10th Street, Corvallis, OR 97330 Upcoming Meetings & Events The next event for the Forum on the New Humanities will be held on Tuesday, April 13 in Humanities Building Room 354, 1:00 to 2:20 pm. Robert Wilkie, Lecturer in English at Siena College will discuss “The Internet, Cultural Studies and Globalization”. His presentation is part of the “New Humanities” series which is organized in conjunction with the English Honors Seminar on literary and cultural studies. The lecture and discussion are open to the public. The following is a presentation schedule for the candidates for the Journalism Search in HU 290: On April 12 from 12:15-1:30 pm, Susanna Priest, Associate Professor and Graduate Advisor in the Department of Journalism at Texas A&M University will speak on “Genomics and Civil Society: Implications for Journalism.”

On April 13 from 4:00-5:15 pm, Nancy Roberts, Professor at the University of Minnesota’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication will speak on “Journalism in the Oneida Community.” On April 15 from 4:00-5:30, David Abrahamson, holder of the Helen Gurley Brown Research Professorship in Journalism at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism will speak on “Plagiarism without End, Amen: Historical Perspective.” Rachel Zitomer will be a featured poet with Dan Wilcox at the Caffè Lena Open Mic in Saratoga on April 7th at 7:00 pm. Admission is $2.00.
Faculty Department Meetings have been scheduled for Wednesday, April 14 and April 21 in HU 290. There will be a continuation of the discussion on the Graduate Program curriculum and discussion on Undergraduate items. Details on FYE. Faculty News Congratulations to Jeffrey Gibson and Kate Winter recipients of the 2003-04 University at Albany Award for Excellence in Teaching. There will be a special award ceremony on Friday, April 16th, at 3 pm in the Campus Center Ballroom and during the General Faculty Meeting on Wednesday, April 28th at 3 pm in the Campus Center Ballroom. Rachel Zitomer won second place in the Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity’s Alpha Gamma Chapter Annual Poetry Slam held at RPI on March 27th.
