Financial Aid

Ph. D. Program | M. A. Program | Courses | Application | Financial Aid | Graduate Students | English Graduate Student Organization

Each year, about six or seven teaching assistantships are assigned to incoming doctoral candidates (stipends are $10,000 plus a 12-credit tuition waiver). Normally, students who already hold an M.A. receive three years of support, while those with a B.A. receive four years of support. Students may also compete for Presidential Fellowships, Minority Fellowships and Assistantships, and assistantships from other divisions of the University. Some of these awards offer higher stipends. Teaching assistants work 20 hours per week in the Writing Center or teach one course per semester. First priority is given to students admitted to the Ph.D. program, but the department has also funded a limited number of M.A. students.
