Stephen North’s primary teaching and research interests are in the cultural functions of popular literature, with a particular focus on mystery and detective fiction. He has also published on graduate education in English Studies (Refiguring the Ph.D. in English Studies, 2000), and—in the more distant past—on a number of areas in Composition Studies.
