The English Graduate Student Organization (EGSO)
The EGSO is a collective of M.A. and Ph.D. students that works actively to enhance their peers' graduate experience outside the classroom, promote collaboration between students and faculty on joint projects, and build students' professional preparation for entering the discipline of English studies. The organization also acts as a liaison between the English Department and the university-wide Graduate Student Organization (GSO), while working closely with the department's graduate office.
To get the latest info, you can join EGSO's MyInvolvement group.
The EGSO organizes and co-sponsors a number of events and series that include:
- Jawbone, a bi-monthly reading series organized by faculty and students, which hosts poets, novelists, essayists, and performance and media artists who work locally and nationally;
- Publishing Workshops where faculty and students discuss the ins and outs of getting work published in scholarly and creative venues;
- Lecture Series featuring the work of doctoral students writing dissertations, departmental faculty, and outside speakers;
- Professionalization Committee Sessions designed to help graduate students find employment upon graduation;
-
Annual Conferences on literary, cultural, and theoretical topics; participants include professors and students from Albany, regional and national U.S. universities, and international institutions.
