Upholstered Furniture
The University at Albany has accepted all of the recommendations from the Governors Task Force on Fire Safety and has adopted a fire safety standard that applies to upholstered furniture. The initial spread of fire is very often accelerated by furniture stuffing, fabric or other materials that have not been carefully selected to inhibit fire spread. The design standard that has been adopted by the campus is known as CAL-133, and it specifies how all of the components of a piece of furniture should be tested as an assembly. The fire integrity of furniture can not be assessed properly by testing the individual materials used in the furniture. It has to be tested while it is assembled and the CAL-133 standard defines how this is to be done. Links relating to CAL-133 and CAL-129 (test standard for mattresses) are given below.
