At the April 2013 Council For Exceptional Children annual conference in San Antonio, doctoral student Nicole Bak (shown above with Dr. Kristie Asaro-Saddler) was named a Doctoral Student Scholar in Special Education Research through the CEC's Division for Research. As a result, Nicole participated in webinars with experts in the field of special education research throughout the semester, and was invited to a special workshop at the CEC conference.
Professor Lynn Gelzheiser, together with colleagues Donna Scanlon, Frank Vellutino, Laura Hallgren-Flynn, and Christopher Schatschneider, gained the 2013 Albert J. Harris Award of the International Reading Association for a paper entitled 'Effects of the Interactive Strategies Approach - Extended: A responsive and comprehensive intervention for intermediate-grade struggling readers'. The paper was published in 2011 in The Elementary School Journal, 112(2), 280-306. This award is given to a recently published journal article or monograph that makes an outstanding contribution to the understanding of prevention or assessment of reading or learning disabilities.
Alumnus Nathan Gonyea, now Associate Professor at SUNY Oneonta, won the 2013 SUNY Chancellor's Excellence in Teaching Award.
