Our Accomplishments

Faculty accomplishments. The accomplishments of our faculty include editorial positions in journals; numerous publications in psychology and education journals; university grants and awards; and external grants from granting agencies in the New York State and the country.
 

Professor David (Yun) Dai, Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology, will be the 2006 recipient of the Early Scholar Award from the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC). The award is given annually on a competitive basis to one scholar who received a doctoral degree no more than 10 years ago and who has made significant scholarly contributions to the field. The award will be formally conferred at the November 2006 Annual Convention of the NAGC.

 

Professor Frank A. Vellutino was asked to give a lecture at Vanderbilt University in September, 2005. The lecture was part of a distinguished lecture series and was entitled Specific Reading Disability (Dyslexia): What Have We Learned in the Past Four Decades?

   
Student accomplishments. A number of doctoral students received awards/nominations from a variety of institutions and organizations.
   
 
Katerina Passa, a fourth year doctoral student, gained the Initiatives for Women's presidential award. Her dissertation proposal was nominated as one of the best research proposals by the Society of Multivariate Experimental Psychology.
   
 
Renetta Deremer Tallman received an award for outstanding academic achievement.
   
 
Ying Du and Kim Kratochwill received SOE Bette Knowlton Roe awards.
 
Katerina Passa and Asil Ozdogru attended summer seminars on the use of large national datasets (NAEP & NHES).
   
 
Xiaolei Wang was selected nationally for a summer internship with HumRPO, a research organization located in Washington, DC.
   
 
Nathan Gonyea and Leigh Mountain organizied the 19th Annual Edward Kelly conference.
   
 
Mohua Bose and Deb Chapin co-edited the conference proceedings.
   
 
Temi Bidjerano received an American Psychological Association Student Travel Award to attend and present two studies at the APA 2005 annual meeting in Washington, DC.
   
 
Temi's paper "Teacher non-verbal behavior and student learning: A meta-analysis" received a nomination for best student paper to be presented at the annual meeting of the National Communication Association, Boston, MA.
   
 
Ying Du, Jon Hobbs and Temi Bidjerano received travel/research grants from the Graduate Student Organization, SUNY at Albany.
