Students actively work with faculty on writing papers and book chapters, and publish them in high quality, peer reviewed outlets. Many students continue to work with faculty as colleagues following graduation. Awards and Honors

Joanna Weaver was awarded the 2017 American Education Research Association (AERA) Division C Graduate Student Research Excellence Award. Joanna received the award for her paper Exploration Before Instruction Improves Transfer in Undergraduate Physics.

Hamide Gozu was awarded the 2016-2017 School of Education, University at Albany Presidential Distinguished Dissertation Award. This award acknowledges the extraordinary scholarship of Hamide's dissertation, titled: The Role of Personality, Perceived Parental Differential Treatment, and Perceptions of Fairness on the Quality of Sibling Relationships among Emerging Adults.

Angela Lui has been awarded one of two Student Travel Awards to attend the 2017 American Educational Research Association (AERA) conference, which will be held in San Antonio, TX. The award was given by the AERA Classroom Assessment special interest group for her paper (co-authored by Dr. Heidi Andrade) titled "An Empirical Study of Formative Assessment in the Arts."

Hirah Mir won the 2017 President's Award for Leadership in University Governance, which recognizes significant contributions to improving the quality of student life on campus.

Hirah Mir was also awarded the 2017 President's Award for Excellence in Teaching by Teaching Assistants. This award recognizes consistent superior teaching at the undergraduate level by a teaching assistant.

Hyunjin Cho was awarded the Society for Research on Child Development 2017 Neimark Student Travel Award to attend the SRCD conference in Austin, TX
