School of Education
Since its founding as the Albany Normal School in 1844, the University at Albany has been nurturing leaders in New York State, the nation and the world. These graduates have helped transform education for the benefit of student achievement and success.
More than 45 graduate degree programs at the master's, certificate and doctoral levels fulfill the School’s mission. They include three online master’s degrees. Although primarily a graduate institution, the School offers a broad range of opportunities in undergraduate education, including a minor.

The Department of Educational & Counseling Psychology — a multidisciplinary approach to research, teaching, and service in the disciplines of Counseling Psychology, Educational Psychology & Methodology, School Psychology, and Special Education
The Department of Educational Theory & Practice — preparing practitioners and researchers specializing in curriculum and instructional theory, language in education, science and math teaching, and instructional design and technology
The Department of Literacy Teaching & Learning — preparing literacy specialists and elementary classroom teachers at the master’s level, and experts in literacy studies at the doctoral level
