Dai Awarded Grant to Study Motivation in Learning

Albany, NY (September 25, 2017) - David Yun Dai, Educational Psychology and Methodology, was awarded a subcontract to a three-year project sponsored by the U.S. Army Research Institute (Basic Research Unit) to develop a comprehensive theory and a detailed computational model of how motivation affects cognitive and metacognitive processes in learning and performance.

Partnering with cognitive scientist Ron Sun of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), the project—called “Motivation, Learning, and Performance: Developing a Detailed and Comprehensive Computational Theory”—includes a comprehensive review of relevant research literature, experimentation to gain data from human subjects, and computational modeling of motivational cognitive processes. This research will inform the graduate course on human motivation taught at the University at Albany’s School of Education.
