Schiller Awarded Grant to Observe Implementation of Common Core Learning Standards

Albany, NY (May 14, 2015) – Dr. Kathryn Schiller, Educational Administration and Policy Studies, has been awarded a contract from the Research Foundation of CUNY – NYSED to contribute a classroom observation component for “Evaluation of New York State Race to the Top Initiative: Identifying Best Practices for Implementing the Common Core Learning Standards in New York State.”

The goal of the larger study is to understand and document what it takes to deliver the Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS) effectively in classrooms, schools, and districts throughout New York State. Districts and schools participating in this study were selected because their students performed better on assessments aligned to the CCLS compared to those serving similar populations (e.g., districts of similar size, location, demographics and economic resources). Schiller and fellow researchers will provide first-hand glimpses into CCLS practices occurring in over 100 classrooms in at least six districts state-wide.
