School of Education Scholarships

The School of Education offers a number of scholarships within and across academic departments to provide financial support. These scholarships are made possible by generous donors–alumni and friends–who are committed to our School and the success of our students. The annual scholarship cycle is announced in early December and applications are due in early February. School of Education scholarship recipients are celebrated at a presentation ceremony in May.  Read more about each scholarship and see the 2012 recipients.

How do I apply for University-wide scholarships?

Details about University-wide scholarships is available at UAlbany Alumni Association Scholarships and UAlbany Foundation Endowed Scholarships.

Who is eligible?

  1. All current students, including those graduating in May 2013
  2. All students who have applied to a degree program for summer/fall 2013 admittance
  3. Non-degree students are not eligible (unless applied to degree program)

My financial need is not very high. Can I still apply?

We encourage all students to apply for scholarships. Some scholarships are given based on academic merit or other conditions.

However, many scholarships are need-based. The only authorized means by which we can confirm your financial need is if you have a FAFSA form on file with the Office of Financial Aid. Please review the Office of Financial Aid’s scholarship information.

Do I need to apply for each scholarship that I want to be considered for?

No, you only need to submit one application which indicates all of the scholarships for which you wish to be considered.

If I received a scholarship last year, will I be eligible to receive one this year?

Yes, you are eligible to receive a scholarship this year, just not the same one you received before.

Do school psychologists and guidance counselors qualify for the “classroom teacher” scholarships?

The awards listed for teachers seeking initial or professional certification are not intended for school psychologists or counselors.

How does the financial part work? Does it impact Graduate Tuition Opportunity Program (GTOP) money?

The scholarship money is deposited into your student account. It may automatically be used to reduce loans. If you feel it will negatively impact your funding by receiving scholarship money, we encourage you to apply for the award for the academic recognition. You may decline the monetary part.
