Wagner Honored with 2011 Excellence Awards
The campus community celebrated the accomplishments of Dr. Wagner and his award-winning colleagues at the University's public ceremony and reception on May 3. Each year, the University at Albany honors special members of its community with Excellence Awards denoting exceptional contributions to the life of the campus.
In addition to this University honor, Dr. Wagner has also been awarded the State University Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Academic Service. SUNY presents these honors annually to individuals within the SUNY community to "acknowledge and provide system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence."
An economist, Professor Wagner’s work examines cross-national patterns and trends in learning and knowledge and skill profiles, as shaped by education policies (governance, accountability, finance) and also relevant policies adopted within labor, social welfare, economic development, finance and trade policy portfolios. Dr. Wagner served as chair of Educational Administration and Policy Studies for nine years, a board member for the Capital Area School Development Association (CASDA) and the Greater Capital Area Principals’ Center, and an advisor on campus for various international and administrative initiatives. Dr. Wagner has served on advisory boards for the Association of Japanese Private Universities, the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, the World Bank’s Project on Lifelong Learning Policies in Latin America, and the UNESCO European Centre for Higher Education. He was instrumental in negotiating the location of the Secretariat of the Comparative and International Education Society at UAlbany and currently serves as Treasurer.
