School of Education Welcomes International Scholars

The School of Education welcomes international visiting scholars to collaborate on and present research, and engage in scholarly exchange and activities with faculty and students.  The School will host international scholars from several countries across the globe for various time periods during the 2010-11 academic year.  Meet our scholars:

Osman Solmaz• Osman Solmaz, Turkey, sponsored by Dr. Carla Meskill, Educational Theory and Practice
Osman Solmaz is lecturer of English as a foreign language at Dicle University, Diyarbakir, Turkey. He spent the months of October and November auditing courses and working with Dr. Meskill on his master’s thesis, A Study of Technology Uses and Preferences of Turkish EFL Instructors.

• Liu Wei, China, sponsored by Dr. Carla Meskill, Educational Theory and Practice
Liu Wei is associate professor in the college of foreign language teaching at Shandong Normal University, China. As a visiting scholar, Dr. Wei will be working with Dr. Meskill on her research on second/foreign language professional development and educational linguistics.

• Van Don Chau, Vietnam, sponsored by Dr. Istvan Kecskes, Educational Theory and Practice
Van Don Chau is a Fulbright visiting scholar.  He is working on the application of Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences Theory to English language teaching.

• Wael Jebril, Palestine, sponsored by Dr. Istvan Kecskes, Educational Theory and Practice
Wael Jebril is a Fulbright visiting scholar enrolled in our TESOL masters program.

• Hong Ming, China, sponsored by Dr. Istvan Kecskes, Educational Theory and Practice
Hong Ming is a PhD student visiting from Shanghai International Studies University.  She is working on her doctoral dissertation proposal on cognitive linguistics: spatial and metaphorical functions of the preposition "on."

• Mingwei Peng, China, sponsored by Dr. Istvan Kecskes, Educational Theory and Practice
Mingwei Peng is a PhD student from Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, conducting research on applied linguistics: home culture metaphor of real estate advertisement and comparative research between America and China.

• Shuling Zhang, China, sponsored by Dr. Istvan Kecskes, Educational Theory and Practice
Shuling Zhang is associate professor from South China Normal University in Guangzhou. She is working with Dr. Kecskes on a book on pragmatics for Chinese undergraduate students.

• Jianru Guo, China, sponsored by Dr. Daniel Levy, Educational Administration and Policy Studies
Jianru Guo is a visitor from Peking University, funded by the China Scholarship Council, with research interests in regional analyses of Chinese private higher education.

• Liang Yan-ling, China, sponsored by Dr. Daniel Levy, Educational Administration and Policy Studies
Liang Yan-ling is from Xiamen University, with research interests in organizational reform of Chinese private colleges.

• Baoli Zhou, China, sponsored by Dr. Daniel Levy, Educational Administration and Policy Studies
Baoli Zhou is a visitor from Hebei Normal University, funded by the China Scholarship Council, with research interests in for-profit higher education.

Qiong Li is associate professor from Beijing Normal University, working on teacher learning for classroom change.

Xiaochun Xing visits from Shandong TV University.
