Assessing Student Mobility and its Consequences: A 3-District Case Study

This report, based on a study focused on a consortium of school districts in western Upstate New York, will include:

  • an assessment of how school structures factor into student mobility as well as uncovering whether student sub-groups are handled differently
  • identification through personnel interviews of the causes and consequences of student mobility.

Student Mobility Among New York City Elementary and Middle School Students: Types of Mobility and Relationships to Performance

This report uses data on New York City elementary and middle school students over nine years and includes:

  • an analysis of both short and long term student mobility from a district and student level
  • an examination of the impact of mobility on student performance using test scores as an indicator.

Examining the Nature and Magintude of Intra-District Resource Disparities in New York State School Districts 

Ross Rubenstein and Larry Miller (Syracuse University)

Through a quantitative analysis of intradistribution patterns and central office expenditures as well as interview data from sample districts, this report will include:

  • what school and student characteristics are related to the distribution of resources within districts
  • what mechanisms do districts use to allocate resources acorss schools, how do these mechanisms differ across districts, and what other factors affect the distribution of resources.
