Prof. Joop Hartog Visits the Department during September and October Professor Joop Hartog, a labor economist from the University of Amsterdam, is visiting the department during September and October. Professor Hartog is an internationally recognized scholar with hundreds of publications. He is co-founder of the journal Labour Economics, and is a former member of the Dutch Council of Economic Advisors. Professor Hartog is staying in BA 109C. |

Panel Discussion on the Financial Crisis with John Geanakoplos The Department of Economics will hold a panel discussion on the financial crisis this Friday from 1:40 to 3:00 in LC 24. The panelists will be Professors Daniel and Dieffenbach from Economics, Professors Faugere and Shawky from the Department of Finance, and John Geanakoplos from Yale University. |

John Geanakoplos Research seminar on "The Leverage Cycle" John Geanakoplos is the James Tobin Professor of Economics at Yale University. He has published widely on the theory of general equilibrium under uncertainty and on financial securitization. He is also co-founder and partner of a large hedge fund. Gultekin Isiklar, Ph.D. 2005, and Kajal Lahiri win IJF Best Paper Prize Kajal Lahiri's paper "How Far Ahead Can we Forecast?" IJF Vol. 23, 2007, pp. 167-87, with Gultekin Isiklar, Albany Ph.D. 2005, won a $1000 prize and the Best Paper Award for 2006 and 2007 from the International Journal of Forecasting. There were over 140 papers in the competition, including papers by leaders of the field. |
