Japan House and China House
These program dormitories are part of the "Living and Learning Communities" at UAlbany. Members of Japan House and China House live in a cluster in student housing on the uptown campus. Residents are a mix of native speakers of Japanese and Chinese and students of both languages. Each house holds various activities organized by the faculty advisors throughout the year, such as field trips, films, etc.
Applicants to both houses must be of sophomore status or above. In addition, they must:
- Actively engage in the study of the target language.
- Have language proficiency beyond 3rd year or be enrolled in 2nd or 3rd year language classes
- Be enrolled in a Japanese/Chinese Studies course in both the Fall and Spring semesters during their residency.
For detailed information about how to apply to either house, see the Residential Life "Living and Learning Communities" website.
You can also contact the faculty advisors for more information.
