Professor Eason's main area of research concerns late medieval and early modern (roughly 1500 to 1850) legal and cultural history in Japan, with a particular focus on various forms of conflict and the multiple methods by which they were resolved. He is currently at work on a larger study that examines the interplay among legal codes, violence, and emotional rhetoric in late-sixteenth-century and early-seventeenth-century Japan.
