EAS Alumnus Matthew Burnham
Matthew Burnham, of Amherst, Massachusetts graduated in 2002 with a degree in Chinese Studies and a minor in Economics. Prior to the University at Albany Chinese program, he had taken four years of Chinese language classes at Amherst Regional High School.
Matthew taught English as a Second Language at the Albany Adult Learning center in his last semester at the University at Albany, and after a year working in real estate and insurance, attended Albany Law School. Along with the challenging curriculum of law school, Matthew played rugby for the school team, interned at the New York State Office of Cyber Security and Critical Infrastructure Coordination in Albany and interned with MRI manufacturer Intermagnetics in Latham. During this time Matthew volunteered with SUNY Albany’s Office of International Student Services Language Partners program, assisting Japanese and Chinese students.
“The University at Albany Chinese Studies program prepared me well for the challenges of law school, and I continue to explore many of the subjects I was exposed to during my time at SUNY. I have no doubt that my experience as a student in the Chinese Studies program, and the support I received from the EAS faculty as an alumnus greatly contributed to my acceptance to and graduation from Albany Law School.”
