Dr. Marjorie Pryse began serving as Dean of Graduate Studies at the University at Albany in the spring of 2005. She is also Professor in the Departments of English and Women's Studies. Prior to assuming the position of Dean, she served as Director of Graduate Studies and then Chair of the Department of Women's Studies. She has also been an active participant in governance, including a term as Chair of University Senate during 2003-04 and another as Chair of the College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Council during 1998-99. She is past President of the National Women's Studies Association (1995-96). She holds the President's and the Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Academic Service and is the author, co-author, and editor of several books and numerous articles in the field of American literature. Her most recent book is Writing out of Place: Regionalism, Women, and American Literary Culture (Univ. of Illinois Press, 2003). She earned her Ph.D. in Literature at the University of California, Santa Cruz, a post-doctoral M.S.W. from the University at Albany, and the B.A. in English from the Ohio State University.
