The Effects of Media

The Effects of Media     Today’s society, especially the youth of today, have become the target of advertisers from a variety of different markets. These advertisers not only use stereotypes, but other weapons that leave consumers with ideas about what are “normal” and “acceptable”.

     For instance, the continuing push of images of models that are beyond skinny and really not a healthy body weight, leave many women with a feeling that what they look like is not good enough. One problem that this has caused is eating disorders. Another example of negative advertising and a negative implication is: tobacco advertisers and youth addiction. In this unit, students will investigate the effect that media has on its consumers.
