PROPHE Collaborating Scholar
Yan, Fengqiao
(China)

Yan Fengqiao, Ph.D., Peking University, is Professor in the School of Education, Peking University. He began to be interested in private higher education when involved in an institutional exchange program between University at Albany and Peking University in 2000. In Albany, he met Professor Levy and got to know more about his expertise and Ford-funded research project. Yan's keen interest in private higher education stems from a conviction that such education is crucial in relationship to China's evolving market economy. Yan is also keen to explore the many particular and fascinating phenomena in the Chinese private higher education niche. He will do so by drawing heavily on his academic background in organizational study. Since his return from Albany to China in 2001, Yan has been very happy that a few students at his university are choosing private higher education as their dissertation topic. Even though China is exceptional for the number of people who study private higher education, Yan believes he can play a key role in connecting such study to PROPHE and its international perspectives in ways that are mutually beneficial..
