Biography

Pedro Teixeira is Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics (University of Porto) and Senior Research Associate at CIPES (the Portuguese National Research Centre on Higher Education Policy), Visiting Scholar at the Center for Studies in Higher Education of UC Berkeley between April and July 2005. He recently finished his PhD in Economics, which focused on the historical development of human capital research and its dissemination in economics and policy-making circles. Previously he had earned a Masters in the Economics of Higher Education at CHEPS (University of Twente, The Netherlands). He has been collaborating with CIPES since its foundation in 1998 in various research projects (see Vita). He has published on various aspects of higher education policy, notably on markets and privatisation in HE (with special attention to the Portuguese case). At the moment he is co-organising an international seminar on the topic of "Markets in HE in North America, Australia and Western Europe", with publication of paper expected in 2004 by Kluwer.
