Theresa PardoDirector, Center for Technology in Government, University at Albany

Theresa A. Pardo serves as Director of the Center for Technology in Government at the University at Albany, SUNY, where she is also a full research professor in Public Administration and Policy. Under her leadership, the Center works closely with multi-sector, multi-disciplinary teams from the U.S. and around the world to carry out applied research and strategic consulting projects focused on the intersections of policy, management, and technology in the public sector. Center work has broken ground in information and knowledge sharing, smart cities, open government and open data, social media policy, and mobile technologies and human services delivery.

Dr. Pardo serves as OpenNY Adviser to New York State’s Governor Andrew Cuomo and as Chair of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National Advisory Committee. She has served on numerous UN Expert Groups on a range of digital government and sustainable development topics. Dr. Pardo is a member of the steering committee of the Northeast Big Data Hub and the U.S. Government Accountability Office’s Executive Council on Information, Management, and Technology. She is also a member of the User Working Group of the NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center at Columbia University and of the City of Schenectady’s Smart Cities Advisory Commission. Dr. Pardo is a Founder of the Smart Cities Smart Government Consortium and a co-developer of the highly ranked academic program in Government Information Strategy and Management offered by Rockefeller College.

Dr. Pardo is ranked among the top five scholars in her field in terms of citations to her published work. Her work has been recognized through numerous best paper awards, the UAlbany’s Excellence in Teaching Award, Rockefeller College’s Distinguished Service Award, Government Tech Magazine’s Top 25 Doers, Drivers, and Dreamers Award which recognizes individuals nationally for transforming governments, and the University at Albany Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. Pardo holds a doctorate in Information Science from the University at Albany.
