I hope you will
participate in the U.S.-African Partnership for Stronger Communities Project’s
2002 Summer Study Tour to Africa July
19-August 7, 2002
Chenango Valley Travel
Bureau has helped to package the project’s tours to Africa since June 2000.
This year we will go via South African Airlines to historic and beautiful Cape Town,
Durban and
Johannesburg (South Africa) and Nairobi, Kenya (East Africa).
The U.S.-African
Partnership for Stronger Communities Project’s Summer Study Tours are
not
typical travel trips. They are strategically
designed to offer “hands on” opportunities for participants
to learn about
culture, history, difference, strength, survival and leadership.
For examples, trips to villages,
cultural markets and meetings with community people are used to provide experiential learning.
Arranged
visits to public and private agencies enable participants to examine delivery of services as well as
exchange and share ideas
with community based practitioners.
Every study tour includes: 1) A Virtual or Actual Focus Group Meeting which
enables the participants and
their African colleagues to examine issues such as community building, poverty,
education, health, women in
development, globalization and debt relief (where possible, the Focus Group Meetings are
televised to the
United States) and 2) Collaborative partnerships which have resulted in participants adopting
school
programs in Ghana and South Africa and engaging in joint research and publications with their African
counterparts.
Participants (students,
faculty, community based practitioners, agency administrators) of the
U.S.-African
Partnership for Stronger Communities Project’s Summer Study Tours are unique.
They are open to exploring
new paradigms; want to learn more about different cultures, races and religions; appreciate the
reflective
and continuous nature of learning; desire to be “new leaders” (e.g. proactive, creative,
effective) in this global
society; interested in meeting people; and excited about visiting the second largest continent of the
world-Africa.
Only (20) seats have been
reserved for the 2002 Summer Study Tour to South Africa and Kenya.
Therefore, I advise you to fill out and return the enclosed registration form immediately.
Priority will be given
to those registered for the African Policy Course RSSW (499Q) and RSSW (705T)
(3 credits). Upon
receipt of your registration form and deposit, you will receive a travel packet
with information
to help you begin preparing for the 2002 Summer Study Tour.
