Hamilton Hill Culturefest Series
Program objective and Background
The "Hamilton Hill Culturefest Series" is a Cultural Enrichment program that features free performances by prominent and local artists in music, dance and the literary arts. The project targets low-and moderate-income families in the Hamilton Hill/Schenectady community and communities of the Tri-City area. The sponsoring agency is the Hamilton Hill Improvement Corp. in the conjunction with the Jerry Burrell Summer Classic.
Approaching its 10th year, the Culturefest series uses the performing arts as a vehicle to reach out to high risk youth in the Hamilton Hill neighborhood offering exposure and education to an array of cultural and traditional forms of dance and music. The project, which features free open air performance by prominent and local artists, is presented during the summer months at Jerry Burrell Unity Park located on Schenectady and Hamilton Streets, Schenectady, NY. The Culturefest
Series attract 300 plus people per event of all ages and varying backgrounds.
The program's success rests on the joint efforts of local community agencies;
county and city municipalities; local businesses and concern citizen.
