Charles Davis, tenor and baritones saxophonist, was born in Mississippi and raised in Chicago where he studied at the Chicago School of Music.  One of the top Saxophonist in jazz today, his career has spanned 40 years leading his own band and playing with the likes of Billie Holliday,

Ben Webster, Sun Ra, Kennedy Dorham, John Coltrane, and Freddie Hubbard, among others.  In 1964 he won Downbeat Magazine's International Jazz Critics Poll for Baritone Saxophone.  Recently, Charles Davis has toured with Barry Harris under the Barry Harris/charles Davis Quartet banner.  He also appeared at the williamstown Theatre Festival in an original production of Eduardo Machado's "Stevie Wants to Play the Blues"  directed by Jim Sipmson.
