Public Infrastructure Core
This is a new core, with the mission of assisting researchers to translate their research for various publics, both within and beyond relevant research communities. The establishment of this core builds on the successes of CSDA and the Mumford Center in bringing population issues, research and data to the attention of both professional and non-professional audiences, as indicated by the Census 2000 series of reports written by John Logan; the web-based GIS systems for delivering population data exemplified by most recent by the 2000+ system created by Richard Alba and Glenn Deane; and the Second Generation Initiative, which will make publicly available the wealth of data on the characteristics of the children in immigrant homes generated by Donald Hernandez, Nancy Denton, and their colleagues. The mission of the new core will encompass also the critical goal of assisting junior researchers in gaining attention for their research projects and findings.
