Census 2000 Redistricting Data (Public Law 94-171): Public Law 94-171, which amended the Census Law (Title 13, United States Code,) was enacted by Congress in 1975. The purpose of this law is to provide state legislatures with small-area census population totals for legislative redistricting.

Census 2000 Demographic Profiles--100 percent and Sample Data: A profile includes four tables that provide various demographic, social, economic, and housing characteristics for the states, counties, minor civil divisions in selected states, places, metropolitan areas, American Indian and Alaska Native areas, Hawaiian home lands and congressional districts. It includes 100 percent and sample data from the decennial censuses.  For Census 2000 data, the DP-1 table is available as part of the Summary File 1, and the other three tables will be available as part of the Summary File 3 data set.

Census 2000 Supplementary Survey (C2SS)The survey was designed to test the operational feasibility of collecting long form-type data simultaneously, but separately from a decennial census. It used the questionnaire and methods developed for the American Community Survey to collect demographic, social, economic, and housing data from a national sample of 700,000 households.

Census 2000 Summary File 1: SF 1 contains the 100 per-cent data which is the information compiled from the questions asked of all people and about every housing unit. See below for technical documentation.  Census 2000 Summary File 2 (SF 2 contains 100-percent population and housing characteristics, but the tables in this file are iterated for a selected list of detailed race and Hispanic (Latino) origin groups, as well as American Indian and Alaska Native tribes. For this file, the lowest level of geography is the census tract.)  Census 2000 Summary File 3 (SF 3 presents detailed population and housing data (such as place of birth, education, employment status, income, value of housing unit, year structure built) collected from a 1-in-6 sample and weighted to represent the total population.  Data is provided down to the block group for many tabulations  but only down to the census tract for others. SF 3 also includes data by ZIP Code Tabulation Area and Congressional District.)  Census 2000 Summary File 4 (Summary File 4 (SF 4) includes tabulations of the population and housing data collected from sample of the population. Just as in Summary File 2, the tables on SF 4 are iterated for a selected list of race and Hispanic (Latino) origin groups, for American Indian and Alaska Native tribes, as well as for ancestry groups.)  Public Use Microdata Sample Files The U.S. Census Bureau provides two sets of Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) files: a 1 percent national characteristics file and 5 percent state files. These files provide the greatest possible detail, while protecting the confidential nature of the data.
