The Graduate Record Examination (GRE), or other standardized test, is required for all applicants to the M.A. program except: when the applicant is a graduate of the University at Albany Criminal Justice major OR when the Graduate Admissions Committee elects to waive the requirement based on special circumstances, e.g. hardship or demonstration of significant professional accomplishments.

The School of Criminal Justice and the Albany Law School have established a collaborative arrangement for graduate students seeking to obtain a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Criminal Justice and the Juris Doctor (J.D.) in Law, via execution of a formal Articulation Agreement.
