NYS ASSEMBLY INTERNS

this is a picture of the NYS Assembly

Part-time volunteers must be college juniors or seniors. Volunteers spend 12 hours each week in Assembly offices. During the first week, volunteers and supervisors develop a work-learning contract and establish a schedule to meet the needs of the office and of the volunteer's classes. The Assembly Volunteer Program recommends that volunteers complete most of their hours on legislative days -- Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday - when there is a greater opportunity to see the Assembly in session. Students who devote large blocks of time to their Assembly assignments usually have the most rewarding experience. They are able to follow through and complete assignments - a benefit to the Assembly supervisor, who usually has tight deadlines to meet, and to the student by providing the continuity and satisfaction of doing a project from beginning to end. Spring semester only, requires 10-12 hours per week.
