This is a statewide labor federation representing 2.5 million working men
and women and 3000 local unions. The goal is to help working families achieve
a better life in New York. The organization focuses on legislative and political
action, organizing, public outreach, education and services to families. Student
volunteers will learn how a diverse statewide voluntary organization educates,
mobilizes and organizes its members to improve workers' lives on and off the
job. Specific tasks might include creating training and advocacy materials,
strategic research projects, preparing informational packets, and organizing
meetings and conferences.
