NY CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION - CAPITAL REGION CHAPTER
The NY Civil Liberties Union, the state affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, is a private, non-profit organization that seeks to preserve and extend constitutional rights and privileges found mainly in the Bill of Rights. It does so through advocacy, both in and out of court, public education and lobbying.
Students who volunteer with the Capital Region Chapter of the NYCLU are primarily involved in the Chapter's intake function, reviewing requests for legal assistance in a myriad of matters. The student makes referrals, does research and occasionally engages in advocacy on an individual's behalf. From time to time, special projects include assistance with Chapter publications, fundraising events, speaker's forums or court cases.
