Research Interests

My research interests include political communication, digital media, media effects, and civic and political engagement. My first area of research examines the interplay among traditional and non-traditional media use, political attitudes, and political (dis)engagement. My second area of research examines the role of interpersonal communication and local media in neighborhood social control.

My scholarly work has been published by peer-reviewed academic journals, including Communication Research, Computers in Human Behavior, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Mass Communication & Society, and New Media & Society. My papers also have won awards from the International Communication Association (ICA) and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). I currently serve as the Associate Chair of the Research Committee for the Mass Communication and Society Division of the AEJMC.
