How You Can Help
Many opportunities and programs exist for alumni from the Department of Communication to help students. Most provide students the opportunity to hone their practical communication skills and gain experience. For more information on any of the programs, please contact Paige Koehler Bowles.
Our programs include:
Share your real-world advice and your experiences working in the field of communication with a student! We will pair successful alumni with a student whose communication interests closely match your own for the purpose of career development and insight into the world of work.
Join the Alumni in the Classroom speaker's list. If your interests and schedule coincide with those of a faculty member, we'll match you up to talk with the class. Or, you may have an opportunity to speak with a student club to share your knowledge.
Increase your visibility and sphere of influence by volunteering to speak to UAlbany groups. Your name, area of expertise, location, and willingness to speak will be listed in the database.
Conduct mock interviews with students when you visit campus. This is an invaluable tool and learning experience to help students prepare for the professional world.
Allow a student interested in your field to spend one full or half day with you doing an externship to help the student gain experience in the workplace that may influence their career and education decisions.
Many students from the Department of Communication complete full or part-time internships as a capstone to their degree. These internships not only enrich their degree program, but also provide invaluable work experience, networking, and on-the-job training. Is your organization interested in setting up full or part-time internships with students from the department? Contact Professor Bill Husson for more information!
Gifts to the Department of Communication support students, faculty, and innovative intitiatives throughout the department. They are also crucial to our efforts to maintain top programs in education, research, and service. Please help by downloading our online donation form and send your gift today!
