The following are important "to do items" for both graduate and undergraduate students. Please pay close attention to all deadlines listed.

  1. Make sure you are eligible to graduate.

Start out by making sure you meet graduation eligibility requirements.

Undergrad degree applications due: October 3

Graduate degree applications due: November 3

Submit your degree application for December 2008 online using MyUAlbany (detailed instructions are available on MyUAlbany). Degree applications must be submitted by the deadlines herein to ensure that your status will be cleared to participate and that your name will appear in the official program.
  3. Clear Any Financial Holds
A diploma can not be issued unless all financial obligations are cleared. Also, outstanding disciplinary actions can prevent your graduation.
  4. Check Your  UAlbany Email Account Often
If you file your degree application by the stated deadline, you will receive updates regarding commencement to your UALBANY email address. Only those who have filed degree applications will receive these updates. It is imperative that you check your email often and share this information with your family. Due to the importance of deadlines, any surface mail received with a notation of "Commencemet Information Enclosed" should be opened immediately. The commencement website is a great wealth of general knowledge about the event and provides important information for family and friends who are planning to attend. Please review and direct your guests to: www.albany.edu/commencement. This site will be updated periodically throughout the semester.

If you are an international student, and wish to carry your country's flag, please include the name of your home country.
  9. Graduating with Honors?
Students graduating with honors will receive a special honors medallion in recognition of their exceptional accomplishments. Honors medallions are provided compliments of the University at Albany. Recipients will receive a letter from the Dean of Undergraduate Education notifying them of their honor status. This letter must be taken to the University Bookstore, where it can be exchanged for the appropriate medallion. Honors for May degree candidates are computed using the cumulative grade-point average as of early November, and a projection that the student will have earned 56 or more credits at UAlbany, of which a minimum of 40 credits are A-E graded. Official honors status will be recalculated when Fall 2008 grades are recorded and will appear on the diploma. If a graduate’s status has changed, he or she must contact the Dean of Undergraduate Education's Office for an updated letter with the correct academic standing. This letter in addition to the original medallion must be presented to the bookstore to exchange for a new one.
