Visiting the University at Albany
Please visit the University at Albany's visitor website for driving and mass transit directions along with lodging and dining options. Additional interactive maps are also available.
Guest Parking on campus for Commencement
Please view the Commencement Weekend uptown campus Guest Parking map.
Guests are permitted to park in campus parking lots without a UAlbany parking decal for Commencement ceremonies. However, please follow all event and/or parking signage or directions from University Police Officers and event parking staff. Vehicles must be parked in a valid parking spot; vehicles parked illegally, such as cars in a handicap parking spot without a valid government-issued handicap parking decal/plate displayed, parked in fire/travel lanes, on sidewalks/grass, or in any areas that are not valid parking spots pose a health and safety concern and such cars will be ticketed and/or towed at vehicle’s owners expense.
Weekend Schedule of Events
Please review the full schedule of events for all the main university-wide ceremonies as well as the individual recognition event listings.
Sign Language Interpreters
Sign language interpreters will be on stage throughout the university-wide ceremonies. Guests or graduates should contact The Disability Resource Center at (518)442-5490 by April 11 if they require coordination to sit in close proximity to the interpreter, require wheelchair access, or special seating needs.
The University at Albany offers the services of a professional photographer at the ceremony. Students will be professionally photographed by Island Photo at the ceremony as they shake hands with the President and as they exit the stage. The photographer will e-mail proofs to the students’ email address or mail to permanent address, and families will have the option to purchase prints if they wish. For more information and access to the proofs, please contact Island Photo directly.
Flowers & Souvenirs
IMPORTANT NOTICE: due to fire alarm systems, balloons are NOT permitted inside any interior venue.
For your convenience, flowers and UAlbany memorabilia will be available for purchase in the lobby of the SEFCU Arena and at the Entry Plaza Lawn. Additionally, the University Bookstore will be open during commencement weekend. For more information on University Auxiliary Services available on campus the day of the ceremony please visit: www.albany.edu/uas/commencement_services.php
Guest TICKETS ARE REQUIRED for ALL non-graduates who are guests (including any current students) in attendance for many departmental ceremonies.
However, in May tickets are not required for the main University-Wide Graduate and Undergraduate Ceremonies where seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please review the full schedule of events and consult your academic department for specific guest policies concerning individual recognition ceremonies.
Official Commencement Programs will be distributed upon entry at the two university-wide ceremony venues. Eligible degree candidates who have met their degree application deadline will be listed in the program, not those who simply participate in the ceremonies. Therefore, students who have not satisfied their graduation requirements, or those who have not had their application approved by the Office of the Registrar by the stated degree deadlines will NOT be listed in the program.
The Office of the Registrar will be happy to mail a Commencement Program to those who are listed but who are unable to attend the Ceremony. Send your request to:
